Living In Terror

Whilst watching TV today.. I spotted a spray of 'ads' asking the public to be on the look out. Day before y-day (wednesday) there was a huge chaos created by a rumour(s) that there was a bomb threat to school(s). If you noticed almost no traffic on the reoads that day, that was coz like a million phone calls got around and worried sick parents didnt send their children to school. Imagine what the parents went through when they got the news just after they had sent their kids packing in the shool van.. imagine the commotion they created out side the school to get there kids out of school again.

Yes we're on a war footing. This may sound like a Rich kid who missed his evening snack, complaining opposed to those in Killinochchi running to the Jungle or where ever they call 'Shelter' when they here those Kafir's circle above them.

Is it our fault? Is it there fault? Who started this? Is it worth seeking answers for these questions? All I know is that a crisis is at hand.. one more bomb/killing may spark it.. a covert opperation by the SLA may spark it..

'Peace' is the need of the hour. I am very new to the Blog scene.. not even got my hairy feet wet.. but going through many blogs I know that all of us want 'Peace', even the extremist of us will settle for 'Peace'.

It's the cost that matters. What is the cost? Are we willing to pay it? How can we achieve peace? Most importantly.. what is our contribution towards it?

I hope you guys think about this before the meeting on Sat.. for the sake of my little niece who was caught up in Wednesday's chaos and for the sake of all those youngsters on both the side who dont know the meaning of 'War'...

Gandhi killing: LTTE expresses regret

"I would say it is a great tragedy, a monumental historical tragedy for which we deeply regret and we call upon the Government of India and people of India to be magnanimous, to put the past behind (them)...," Anton Balasingham

Oh wow.. they are confessing there sins.. in hope of they be forgiven.. or is just to get the Indian's off their back?

They make is sound like the Suicide bomber missed the wrong target, or was an error in communications kinda thing...

Asked if the LTTE could promise that it would not commit such acts again, Balasingham went on: "We have made pledges to the Government of India that under no circumstances we will act against the interest of the government of India."

I think this clarifies that..

But what about the Govt. of Sri Lanka.. what about our slain President's, Presidential Candidates, War Hero’s and the Son's and Daughters of Mother Lanka??

It's about time that the World Realizes that LTTE is not the soul rep. of the Tamil People nor the voice of them. They are just a bunch of lunatics, who do not value life being led by a leader who should seek psychiatric help instead of being acclaimed for his Leadership and his so called "struggle".. featuring him on foreign magazines as a true rebel who fights his cause.

This is the same guy who sent a Pregnant woman to sacrifice her self and her unborn child. How is he going to beg forgiveness of that Child?

Looking back at Shakes

Sunday saw another year of Shakespeare come to an end. The result is not the issue of this post.. it has been already debated on different blogs, and for several years.. and the judges decision is final yar?

I've been involved in the Annual Competition since 1997, and have seen it all. However there are some-things that I keep seeing each year that disheartens me. I'm referring to the organizing of this event.

Being involved in many societies/clubs during my school days, and it's always been the case where you improve with experience. However this is sadly not the case with the Organisers of the Annual Shakespeare Comp. They've been doing this for such a long time that you'd think that they'd get there act together.. but is it the case??

They made a huge blunder by shifting the finals to BMICH.. which many critics argued is not a Stage for Theater. After many years of convincing they have settled for the B. C. Auditorium. Is this better or worse? I'd say it's better.. but it could be much better..

There are a few limitations in B. C. Auditorium when compared to the Wendt. No flyers, is one thing that we've have to deal with on many occasions. I'm sure that you guys have more things to add to this. For me there is no place like the Wendt..

My point is it's the same committee that organisers this event.. it's the same name I hear each time heading it, but how come they cant get it right for once? Even this year the Rehearsal the Finalists got was lacking two things.. "Sound" and "Lights"! Sadly there was no Sound & Light rehearsal for the finalists, and only during the performance that we got access to the "Lights Board" and sound board. For eg: we went into the performance not knowing the the "wash" of light of the C/S. Mind you this has been happening ever since they shifted to B. C . from BMICH.

Another fact that puzzles me is why bother hosting the Semi’s at Wendt at all, after all if the finals are going to be at B. C. let actors/actresses get use to the stage.

During the morning of the finals I didn't see a rep from the committee, to clarify issues. The event never starts on time. The tickets for this most sought after event of gobbled up by the schools with the aid of "pre allocation". I came to know that only 32 nos. Rs. 500/= were available for the public for the Girls finals. I'm sure it would have been the same for the Boy's Finals too.

All in all if you've been participating in the Comp. you know that these guys can do MUCH better.. I wonder why they dont ??

Sri Lanka's overseas Tamils fill rebel Tiger coffers

Here's an interesting article I found while searching the lates developments and wondering how the international media think about SL Govt. (specially after the accusation of the Church Attack) It's about Tamil expatriate support for LTTE.

"Tamils have no power in the political system," 69-year-old Vijayadeva said at a rotest in London.

Oh ok.. so the ITAK, TNA and EPDP aren't tamil? I think this Vijayadeva has no idea about the local situation except for emptying his pockets blindly. And yes I said EPDP although they have confrontations with the LTTE they are still TAMIL.. after all this is about the Tamil people and their representation. I belive they have a pretty good representation in the Parliament considering the actual percentage of the population.

"The state is supplied with modern weapons. Where can the LTTE go for arms and money? They must go to the people."

This is what they say.. to collect money from there Tamil Benefactors.. or the poor LTTE'ers why doesn't the Govt consult them when they place their orders.. Why doesn't Maa-hinda say "Yo Prabha we're thinking about getting us some R-52 tanks, can I get you some Anti-Tank mines, there supposed to be compatible with that model?"
Besides I thought the Norwegians were doing a good job of that....
"We need war," said Naheerathan, 39, who left the northern Tamil-dominated city of Jaffna in 1994 just before it fell to government forces. "Otherwise we cannot get independence." Some overseas Tamils say they no longer dare visit the country of their birth. Their only contact is through family, news reports, and Tiger-made DVDs which show alleged military atrocities and skirt the issue of suspected Tiger attacks.
Well sir, if you actually came back you'd realize that this isn't about Tamil independence anymore.. it's about a psychotic man following his own path, convincing many people that this is the true path to Liberation.
All I can say is, stop watching those Edited DVD's and stuff that you read on Pro-LTTE web sites, speak to the actual tamil people in concern, do they belive that Mr. Prabhakaran is going to grant there freedom, NO.. is Mr. Prabhakaran their only voice NO.. if it was how come soo many Tamil people were threatened not to vote in the past Presidential Elections.. (anyone remebers how a Tamil Lady's hand was cut off for voting..?)
And few expatriate Tamils say the ban will be effective. "It's like abortion," said councilor Idaikkadar. "If you ban it, it will just go on to the back streets. If people want to do something, they will still do it."
Well atleast it's going to make it a whole lot harder and those who are blindly donating will know that there are no longer funding a charity, but an illegal movement banned in soo many countries.
Finally I like to end with what a few Tamil Expat's are quoted saying.. so you have an idea of their thinking. This is exactly the thinking we need to change....
No one doubts that some expatriate Tamils enthusiastically support the idea of a new war for a separate state. One said that with some 64,000 dead in the war so far, another 10,000 or so new deaths would make little or no difference.

40,000 child prostitutes in Sri Lanka, says LTTE

Ok.. you heard me right that was not taken off a UN Web Site nor any web site pertaining to Child Rights in Sri Lanka but the TamilNet. Since when do the LTTE care about child prostitutes and Child Labour? Read the following :

"The prostitution and child labor figures are indeed shocking. The number of
cases, 1400, the UNICEF has accused the LTTE of child recruitment pales with
these figures. Of the 1400 more than 800 are now 18-years or older, 400 are
between 17-years and 18-years, and only 200 are under 16 years. We are
meticulously tracking every one of the under-16's to resolve these cases with
the UNICEF officials," Dr N Malathy, Secretary at the North East Secretariat on
Human Rights (NESOHR) located in Kilinochchi told TamilNet.

Thats why the LTTE are so concerned about this cause.. Well 1400 isn't a big number compared to 40,000 eh? Except for the fact that there maybe more than 1400 (the actual cases reported.. usualy it's the case.. dont you think) and by god.. getting a Child to Sweep the Garden, do the dishes and send him to the Market.. that is sacrilege compared to getting them to Carry a gun that weighs half their weight and put them in the front line to save the Elite Cadres of the LTTE.

Those kids are doing there duty for their home-land I suppose, that's why there taken from there homes with such ease.. I suppose. So you can convice a 12yr old that your gonna die for this thing called "Eelam" blah blah... how do you convince an unborn child ? (Like they used In the suicide bomb attack targeting the Army Chief.. think about it....)

And the line that amuses me the most.. "Of the 1400 more than 800 are now 18-years or older" oh wow.. majour reasoning.. so that short period from 14-18 is just gonna blow away.. there gonna forget it like an ex-girl friend I suppose.

So shame on you Child Rights Activists.. you cant blame the LTTE anymore coz.. 800 out of the 1400 are 18 now.. boo hooo!!!

Here's the actual article.
In retrospect here is an interesting read.

The Modern Robin Hood Retires in 2008

Robin Hood - Steals from the rich gives to the Poor.

The most richest man in the world has given up his day job.. (atleast is scheduled to give up) of robbing people of their rights and freedoms to S/W, and made billions (50 to be exact) off it.

There are many who are blind and unaware of this robbing as many of the M$ products are freely available in streets for a mere cost of a Compact Disc. But even then there is a robbing of the ability to modify and study the S/W.

He is attempting to monoplize the markets specially in developing countries signing agreements with Universities and State Institutions.. forcing us a product that once hooked is like Smoking.

Why I call him a Robin Hood is, he still manages to do a bit of good to the poorer people, which earned him an award along with Bono (u2).. So I'm glad he's retiring and concentrating on humanitarian work. The question is can the wrongs he did be Undone ??

GOOD BYE, MR. GATES!

"LTTE condemned the attack on civilians in the strongest possible terms."

Inset :

"64 passengers, including fifteen children and a Buddhist monk, were killed and around 94 wounded when a civilian bus was caught in a claymore mine blast near Kebitigollawe, 23 km southeast of Vavuniya, around 7:50 a.m. Thursday, police sources said. Wounded survivors were rushed to Kepitigollawe and Anuradhapura hospitals. The majority of victims are Sinhalese, officials said."
In case you havent seen the gruesome images click here.

And here we have the LTTE denying it again..

"Denying the accusations, the Director of LTTE's Peace Secretariat, S. Puleedevan, said the LTTE condemned the attack on civilians in the strongest possible terms. Mr. Puleedevan said the deadly attack, coming just after the return of an LTTE delegation which went to Norway, was a planned act carried out by paramilitary elements to destroy efforts to resume the stalled peace process. The attack could be the work of forces seeking to create ethnic tension between Sinhalese and Tamils, as has occurred in Trincomalee, a police official in Vavuniya said."

OH wow Mr. Puleedevan.. let me guess Central Bank Bombing didnt involve Civilians.. or let me guess.. that too was SLA or another Para-Military Group..

About

Chaar~Max

What the hell is that? Well it's a term that stuck with me during school days (Yes I went to school, a pretty good one at that. But no I didn't attend many classes, was found cutting them and earned the name "Walkers Tours" back then).

Anyways "Chaar" is like when you describe something pathetic or bad/upset. Often used with the word "scene". Eg: "Chaar scene eka machan" (telling your buddy how you got dumped by a girl etc.). When the situation is more than just "Chaar", feel free to add an adjective like "Max", which would follow as "Chaar max"!! Unfortunately there are isn't a minimalist approach where you can use "Chaar min", unless you are describing your self to the ladies as "Charming".

Feel free to use the term as you go along. It is not Copyrighted or Patented (by me atleast).

About me

Nationality :
Born a Sri Lankan, raised a Sri Lankan, will die a Sri Lankan. Race and Religion don't matter unless you want to judge me by them. Son of a Sinhala Buddhist Mother and a Catholic Father, there judge me now!

Gender :
Male, the typical Guy you'll see walking around in Shorts and Bata's, hair uncombed/ruffled. Tall, Dark and Handsome you ask? More of Tall, Dark and a bit on the Chubby side. Often seen wearing a "Fat Man Rules" T-Shirt driving a Silver Starlet. Yes, I drive like a maniac. Why? Because you hog the right lane (Lane for overtaking over here) and take ages to get off the blocks. On Sunday, I enjoy the drive, hog the left lane and tune my Radio/MP3 player (Drool.....).

Status :
Stable/steady relationship with the Girl of my Dreams. No no, I'm not dreaming. She's for real.

Work :
I work in the IT Sector. Private company that undertakes to Manage Networks of other companies, and a mini-ISP managing/hosting mail and web servers.

More:
What better way to get to know a person than read his Blog. So go ahead, don't be shy.

About the Blog
I discovered Blogging while attending a "FOSSed" seminar. Read a few blogs and felt that it was the perfect solution to vent one's feelings, opinions and just act crazy (once in while) along with jotting down happenings in your Daily Life, how Blogging or Web Log originated.

So, if your here that means you either read my blog or about to do so. So here are a few things to keep in mind.
  1. The views, opinions expressed over here are mine. My car my petrol story. But I'm happy to accept counter arguments.
  2. The facts I state are from what I've heard, read etc. If they are wrong don't feel shy to point them out.
  3. The content on this site ranges from mature to absolute silly. Would I recommend your child read this? I dunno, that's upto to you to decide. If you end up acting like a child after reading this, good for you! (I try not to use abusive word's, but that doesn't mean I can stop the people who comment on this blog)
  4. I'm not a Journalist nor am I a writer. I just write what comes to my mind. What you read is in it's raw form. So please clap each time you see a grammatical error and jump up when you notice a typo. No those are not inserted intentionally to avoid people searching for content, but are left unintentionally to satisfy the critic in you who loves to find other's mistakes. Don't be a shame. I love doing that. I'd point a dozen in somebody else's writing, given my own work wouldn't find a single. (To improve readability when I have time I try to read again before I publish and Spell Check).
  5. I am not responsible for the comments maid on this site. People are given full access to make any comment they want. Judge them, not me.
  6. If you like what you read, don't just sit there, recommend it to somebody else. No you wont get a Phone call from your secret Crush just because you did so, neither will Bill Gates donate a Penny to the account of a dying child.
  7. For those who don't know anything about Sri Lanka, and reading my blog, well it's a Paradise Isle with Exotic beauty, filled with Hospitable people (like my self) and tons of Culture and Heritage to Explore, despite my constant rants on how Pathetic this country is. In short I wouldn't pick another Country in the world to live in.
  8. The pictures used in my Blog, are the first one's to come up on a "Google Image Search". If I pissed you off by taking some one's pics, without their permission "Thousand Apologies". If you want money, sorry I dont have any, however if you come down here, I'd buy you an "Isso Wadai", I tell you it's a godly delight.
