Thoppigala.. Jungle or LTTE Strong Hold

Yesterday saw the fall of Thoppigala or Barron's Cap. Firstly our hats out to those who fought bravely and also a moment to mourn those who fell, for their motherland.

Now we have to deal with the comments after the big win.

  1. Is Thoppigala just a Forrest like Opposition Leader Ranil W. says?
  2. Are we going to spend more defending Thoppigala?
  3. Was this all a put on show by Mahinda and Prabhakaran?
To start with the last question first, my political knowledge is not enough to comprehend the buy-outs and sell-outs between the two parties. However LankaWhistleBlower has the details of the Mahinda-Prabhakaran deal.

With regard to the Second Question, only time would tell, how many of our soldiers will fall keeping those FDL's.

Now to the first and most important question in my opinion. What is Thoppigala to us? And what is it's worth?

The Govt. implies it's one of the security fortresses of the LTTE, and all their equipping of Suicide-Bomb Trucks are carried out there. There was also some indication that the cannabis that the LTTE use to trade for their weapons are grown in those jungles, thereby cutting some of there cash flow.

For the people living around Thoppigala, you'd have to ask them who'd they prefer as a Neighbour.

As a firm believer of "This War Cannot be Won", I believe this is going to play a bigger role in pushing/pressurizing the LTTE into Peace Talks. Which in turn is the right track to settling this conflict.

UPDATE : A detailed account on the mission to free the east, and the Thoppigala victory can be found here.

There is no peace talks as the CFA has been blatantly violated. LTTE is waiting to strike, just wait and see.

Well I hate to sound like a JVY guy, but the value of the CFA, has been devalued to the value of the paper it's signed on. (Both parties have to take responsibility for that)

As for the outcome of the Thoppigala capture, there are 2 as I see it.

1. LTTE hit back hard, bringing the capital and the Govt to it's knees. Foreign watch dogs will call for ceasefire etc etc...

2. Mahinda, will pull off a few more campaigns to notch up his popularity, gain election millage.

As for his next step, I'm not sure. Either the tigers will be cornered into re-negotiations, or he'd like to keep the war going, after all you don't wanna throw away all that money that's coming your way, and the ability to blame all your mistakes on the "war situation".

Ah.. it’s so funny you think LTTE will come to negotiations…. I don’t think so, I read security report last week by Iqbal Athas.. No one know how they’ll respond to this..
All I know is, you’ll never ever make peace by war. People have to understand each other and they must come forward to accept the reality.

It’s politicians who corrupted the minds of the Sinhalese and they are the people who keep on corrupting them. It’s happening from the independence…

Well what you say is half true. While the Politicians are corrupting the sinhalease, Prabhakaran is corrupting the tamil people.

End of the day nobody wants to let go of power. Both Sri Lankan rulers and Prabha & Co are guilty of it.

As for peace talks, the only way I see LTTE entering them is through pressure. It has to be applied both from Foreign powers and from cornering his military tactics.

These tamils as well as tamils that are on the internet that is paid by ltte, make harsh comments that are very blind. They blame politicians, what they fail to realize is that Sri Lanka has always belonged to the Sinhalese. And the fake myth of "homeland" is disentagrating before their eyes. India will now have to look for alternate ways to destabilize Sri Lanka OR to stabilize Sri Lanka since it was India who gave birth to LTTE. (training, feeding, etc). The minority tamils are brainwashed by LTTE and the ltte supporters only support as long as they are getting paid lots of money by the clueless dispora.

In the end, there will be less tamils as not a single sinhalese sri lankan will dare to give up their true and only home of Sri Lanka. So the future for tamils that live in Sri Lanka who migrated from India doesnt look bright as their kids are child soldiers, parents dont have jobs and run risk of malnutrition and diseases.

War can be won! And it would have if the politicians didn't prolong this. If the army, navy and airforce attacked fierecly and killed the leader praba along with all other ltte. peace can be put into place by developing those poor areas where tamils live and accepting them as sri lankans also. Then peace will be there and foreign tamils who need money will have to get toilet jobs again since they wont be getting paid from the dispora.

As I said before, the war can be won. Countries helped to take down Hitler and the german army. The war was won, peace is now established. War can be won to bring peace.

No point of a ceasefire because how many ceasefires have we had? And why have ceasefires with terrorsits? They will do what they did before, which is rearm, regroup, and cause mayhem. In the end, lots of people will die with ceasefire whereas if the government goes after the enemy once in for all, lots of peple will die but at least thenext generation will be able to live happy in peace.

End of Story.
Victory to our proud SL army, navy and air force as well as hon. President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Defense Secretary as well as General Fonseka.
