Wi-fi spectrum belongs to community and it is free in USA + all other countries as long as I know.
But it is licensed and restricted in Sri Lanka – as far as I know Sri Lanka is the first country to jump and license Wi-Max. So forget about Free internet thanks to TRC.
We have bigger problem than Google-Fi ~ even simple wi-fi home network is theoretically illegal in Sri Lanka.
Why we need Wi-Fi ~ we have fertilizer subsidiary ;-)
Very true mate. Yes you are correct! Our Mucks have Licensed the 2.4G spectrum too he he..
Shit Happerns only in Sri Lanka!
I was just living in a dream world, till you woke me up! How RUDE!
its a must goverment has to invest on it, its really helpful now most of the notebooks PDA's got wifi at least can start from colombo and airport it will be good for tourism and BOI,
Maldives almost got main city covered i know its a small place but still they did it for their people.most of the hot spot antennas are fixed when the submarine cable come they will release it
even with a charge its great to have wifi over colombo
Well Saptha, it aint that easy in our beautiful lil island. As our not soo far thinking immediate money gaining policy makers have muked it up.
They have licensed the the FREE FREQUENCY. That means some company has paid a load of money on a free frequency. I doubt they'd like to give it back.
Other issue it heavly licensing, and duty. Only domestique Wi-Fi equipment is permited to the country. To bring any other sort of euipment, you need to register with the TRC. It's huge process, employees are screened for their qualifications, they come and inspect your place, you have to set up a workshop etc. So you get the picture.
The security situation also pays apart in all this too.
In here TRC also working with local ISP to establish connections and get fixed frequency also they do have Linux based authentication servers and bandwidth is balancing also done by server, from some point we have to start then can add more and more stuff and keep it up what happen in SL too much planing and too many rules so output will not be there.
