Martin McGuinness a deputy leader of Sinn Fein, a former leader of the IRA, paid a visit to Thamilselvan yesterday or the day before. During the talks he had urged both parties back to peace talks.I hope that this former IRA dude actually persuaded the LTTE, back to the table for talks and settlement through negotiation given their own experience in the IRA, giving up their weapons for a peace deal in Ireland.
As opposed to guide the LTTE, to a fully fledged war, something they missed out on, and may be regretting, as certain people speculate. I certainly hope not!
Also the UNP'ers are asking where are the 'Sahodharayas' as they have no objection to the Govt. approving the meet of the Former IRA leader, and giving him a Helicopter to travel toKillinochchii, although it seems the order of the day, nowadays.
The questions left to be answered are :
1. What did they discuss?
2. If it was a push towards Peace, will the LTTE buy it?
3. Will the LTTE ever give up their weapons?

what we have to keep in mind is that IRA is not "seperatist" like LTTE. What IRA is fighting for is to become "united" with Irealand, to make the Island of Irealand a "one country". Complete opposite of what LTTE is trying to achieve. Making 2 countries in one island. :-)
There's a nicke Brad Pitt move (Staring Harrison Ford too) named "Devil's Own" (1997) which reveals a sensitive area of Irish conflict. I really liked the story, and the day i watched it, I thought "why can't our film directors make movies like this, taking N/E conflict as the source?"
Answer would be, "if they make movies with the theme "LTTE is bad" then they won't get any awards in international festivals!!!"
If you can try to watch this movie. It's really nice, and we can easilly adopt it to our own N/E conflict as well. There's good's and bad's in both sides. Both sides have there own rationalization for what they do. The movie is looking at the point of view of an "Average Irish man" living in USA, played by Harrison Ford, and Bradd Pitt is playing an extremist IRA terrorist.

But hey, I might be wrong coz I dont know every Sinhala (I mean Sri Lankan. no Prejudices pls.. he he) movie ever made! I think the one Gamini Fonseka was in, came close to home. Can't rem the name.
What abt "Purahanda Kaluwara" with Joe Abey.? Havent seen it, but that to has something to do abt the War ya?
I guess ur talking about "Nomiyena Minisun" by Gamini. It's a story about a Sinhala Army Major, married to an Indian (Not Sri Lankan) Tamil girl, and our Army treat the Major (Gamini) as a traitor! He's never given a chance to go to the battle front. But his son (Born to the Indian mother) goes to the battle front, and the story builds around the humanity inside a war.
About "Pura Handa Karuwala", (By, Prasanna Vithanage) it is not as much bad as some poeple shouted about. It revealed simple truths about our Army, and fammilies of soldiers, but hard to swallow. I personally rate this film as a good one, any way.
But, Handagama's "Me Mage Sandai" is completely a "LTTE Propeganda movie" :-) He's born to that!. I don't think there's a single true incident included in that movie.
