Sri Lankan Sex Radio

No no, this is not an attempt to improve my hits nor increase random visitors who Google for "Sri Lankan Sex", but a true story I happened cath tuning in on Gold FM (although I would welcome the extra hits).

Raja FM, owned by the E. A. P. Group has been pulled off the air by the GOVT, due to the extent of Sexual Content on it.

Unfortunately I am not a listener of the said radio station, and only happen to listen to "Sirasa", "Y-Fm" and "MAX" on the Sinhala Band, so I cannot give you my opinions on the issue, however I found a wiki page that was already modified by an obviously irate listener, who also has provided some recordings of "Raja FM".

Here's one. Seems more like an open forum for discussing sexual problems people have. Hmm...

Complete List of the Clips I managed to find.

Mr. Minister, My Radio has a band changing switch. If I don’t like a radio station or TV station, I use that and listen to something else I like. I don’t want Mr. Minister decide what I listen or not. Mr. Minister offered me free education (I’m thankful for that) so right now I’m capable of selecting good and bad.
I think Mr. Minister should get a new transistor radio too with a band changing switch and listen to some other channel.

Well to be completely honest I'm not entirely surprised...I listened to one clip and ummm...its pretty much a Sri Lankan Howard Stern...there's going to be some pushback...just look at how Howard Stern was treated over here....

Hey BP, then why not block that program? Why the whole channel? Why Government wants to tell me what channel I should listen to? Why not categorized programs and add parental guidelines?

About children, I don’t think government can keep away children form sexual materials at this age. If government really cares about children, they should educate children about sex and related topics. Keeping them in dark is not the solution here. But that is a deferent topic.

But as a Christian country, Sri Lanka should understand our Christian values and respect them. So I don’t want to bitch too much about this.

n,
FCC banned Howard Stern’s program – not the Station. But that program still broadcast in satellite and won 2006 freedom of speech award. He was selected in to Time Magazines’s ‘100 people who shape our world’. Also don’t forget this is banned under a president who thinks Armageddon come in his life time and he is doing God’s will. I don’t think Sri Lankan FM’s are even closer to Howard Stern’s level of quality.

I think there are a lot of moral issues involved in this. There are a few topics discussed with more explicit content. Here's the problem as I see it, people write in their entire problem, and some maybe just writing shit for kicks, the presenter goes through all the explicit details on air, which is not required. It's pretty obvious that the answer to the queries can be given after a simple summary for the benefit of the listeners.

It goes over board when the people at Raja FM realize that people rather listen for the kicks of having a female presenter "Sumali" read out the mails, basically "Cheap thrill" as you would call it.

Eg 1.

Eg 2.

Now should they ban the Station ?

In my opinion no.

Should they ban the particular show in general?

No. If at all suggested the Show being moved from the 9pm slot to maybe something like 10 or 11pm.

Thereby assuring that kids don't have access to th show without consenting parents.

This also brings up the issue of why talking about sex is soo "taboo" in Sri Lanka. After all the advice is required by people, young and all. Most of them are facing situations like this is because they haven't got a proper "Sex Education".

Eg 1.

Why dose one hide behind fake names and damaging e mails? Why can’t they go directly to the parties concerned and voice there opinion. The govt. also needs to be reminded that they are lacking on there part of bringing the cost of living down than going around banning radio stations. What happened to the Democracy in this country, freedom of speech???????

Hey

Children should be asleep by nine. Adults should act like adults. If you guys chatting here are adults why discuss kiddies stuff.

Sirasa TV showed night time TV. But did you watch it?? Did any one ban the channel or at least the program??? They even interviewed homosexuals and showed videos of moddles clad in most arousing clothes. Maybe you watched them and never spoke about it.

Grow up people, This is a real world. If a child is up at nine PM listening to radio discussing psychological problems the parents should be shot.

Dont get caught up in this dirty business of influencing and using the might of the political hand to take care of rivals. It was said "Power is the most stupid thing in the world. Because it makes it easier to act than to think".

Lastly. People!! grow up!!!

hey

Go to a paper vendor. Ask for a publication called Vivahaya (Marriage). Read it and try to fathom if it talks anything about marriage.

Any one could buy this off the street in broad daylight when children are roaming the streets before and after school. THe stories are explicit and sexually stimulating.

*Trying to comprehend*, why these intellectual people discussing a radio program that could harm childrens psychi aired at times when children of responsible parents are asleep dont discuss the VIVAHAYA magazine, *I have developed a migrane*. Get real people.
Seriously, Get Real.

Do not be an "Also Ran". "The other man ran that way so I also ran". Try and eliminate sexually explicit stuff that children could see during the day if you can. Take on the higher powers if you can. Dont give lip service to an already organized bull shit.

Cheers
